Housing Preservation Grant

$200,000 to repair rural homes

Partnering with JEM Home Restoration to provide critical housing repairs for very low-income homeowners in rural Northeast Florida — Fort White (Columbia County), Baker, Bradford, and Union counties, focusing on households earning less than 50% of area median income.

NextGen AgriSolutions, Inc. proposes a comprehensive Housing Preservation Grant program to repair and rehabilitate 4–5 homes over a 24-month program.

Veterans: Two Ways Into Farming

You served. Now let us help you farm.

NextGen AgriSolutions runs two USDA-funded programs for military veterans in North Florida. One is a full training program on a working farm. The other helps you, wherever you are starting from, get your USDA farm record, your first application, and your first sale. Both are free to veterans. You can sign up for one or both with the same form.

Veteran Agricultural Pathways

The hands-on training program

Who it's for: Veterans of any era who want a career in agriculture — your own farm, a job on one, or an agribusiness. No farming experience required. Service-disabled veterans are encouraged to apply; at least a quarter of each class is reserved for them.

What you get:

  • A year-long program with about 20 other veterans
  • 120+ hours of classroom and live online instruction, plus 200 hours of hands-on work at a 168-acre working farm in Jackson County
  • Four multi-day residential blocks timed to the crop season: planning and planting, growing, harvest, and processing through to delivery
  • Lodging at the farm's training lodge, meals during residential blocks, and travel support
  • Personal connections to USDA's Farm Service Agency, NRCS, Rural Development, Extension, the SBA Veterans Business Outreach Center, DOL-VETS, and the VA
  • A written pathway plan, a mentor, and placement help

When: The first class begins in early 2027. Applications are open now; space is limited to 20 per year.
Cost: None. No tuition, no fee.

From Service to Soil

Outreach and USDA program help

Who it's for: Veterans in North Florida who are farming on any scale, who have land and want to start, or who are thinking about it. Under USDA's definition, that includes veterans who have never farmed, who have farmed ten years or less, or who left service within the last ten years.

What you get:

  • A veteran peer navigator — an experienced veteran producer who meets with you, helps you figure out what you need, and goes with you to the USDA Service Center and stays until your application is decided
  • Farm Record Days, where FSA staff are on site to set up your USDA customer record and farm number in one visit
  • Service Center Circuit stops near you, hosted by County Veteran Service Officers and veteran organizations, where FSA, NRCS, and Rural Development staff come to you
  • Short training series on farm start-up, recordkeeping, production, food safety, and selling to institutional buyers
  • One-on-one help with land, financing, and first sales, mentoring, and a buyer for your first crop through our partner cooperative's aggregation channel

Where: Two hubs — Northeast Florida (Clay, Duval, Nassau, Baker, and St. Johns Counties) and the Panhandle (Jackson, Holmes, Washington, Calhoun, Gadsden, and Bay Counties).
When: Navigators begin taking cases this winter; the first Farm Record Days and Circuit stops are scheduled for early 2027. Sign up now and we'll contact you when a stop is scheduled near you.

Veteran Outreach and Field Training Coordinator

Full-time · $50,000, benefits per policy · Based in Orange Park with regular travel to Jackson County

NextGen AgriSolutions is hiring a full-time Coordinator for From Service to Soil, a USDA-funded program helping North Florida veterans farm and use USDA programs. You will run the Service Center Circuit calendar and host relationships, manage veteran intake, supervise and support three veteran peer navigators, schedule and deliver training series in Northeast Florida and the Panhandle, organize Farm Record Days with USDA staff, keep technical-assistance records, and follow up with participants at six months.

Requirements: bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in agriculture, veteran services, or community outreach; two years of outreach or case-management experience; valid driver's license and ability to travel between hubs; comfort with recordkeeping systems. Preferred: familiarity with USDA FSA, NRCS, and Rural Development programs; veteran status.

Veteran Outreach and Training Coordinator

Full-time · Veteran Agricultural Pathways · Based in Orange Park with residential blocks at the Jackson County farm

Coordinate recruitment, selection, and support of annual cohorts of 20 veterans in a hands-on farm training program; manage cohort logistics for four residential training blocks a year; coordinate the USDA and partner-agency resource connections for each participant; maintain participant records; and support mentoring and placement.

Requirements: bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in agriculture, veteran services, or community outreach; two years of outreach or case-management experience; valid driver's license and ability to travel; comfort with recordkeeping systems. Experience in adult education or workforce programs is a plus. Preferred: familiarity with USDA programs; veteran status.

Veteran Peer Navigator (three part-time positions)

Part-time, 10 hours per week · $22.00 per hour plus mileage · One based in Northeast Florida, two in the Panhandle

Are you a veteran who farms and has been through the USDA process? We are hiring three veteran producers to help other veterans do what you did. After a paid 24-hour training with USDA Service Center staff, you will carry a caseload of veterans from first contact through their USDA application decision: meeting with them, helping them gather documents, going with them to the Service Center, preparing them for Farm Record Days, staffing Circuit stops, and logging every contact.

Requirements: veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces; currently farming or ranching in North Florida; your own USDA farm number; reliable transportation and willingness to travel in your hub; patience and good recordkeeping. Family members of project staff and of New North Florida Cooperatives Association officers or directors are not eligible, under the project's conflict-of-interest rules.

USDA Awards NextGen AgriSolutions Two Grants to Put North Florida Veterans on the Land

Orange Park, Fla. — October 2026

NextGen AgriSolutions Inc. has been awarded two three-year grants from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Institute of Food and Agriculture, totaling $1.5 million, to help military veterans in North Florida start, grow, and sustain farms.

The first award, under USDA's Enhancing Agricultural Opportunities for Military Veterans (AgVets) program, funds Veteran Agricultural Pathways, a hands-on training program at a working farm in Jackson County. Each year, a cohort of 20 veterans will complete more than 300 hours of classroom and field training that follows a crop from planting through harvest, processing, and delivery to institutional buyers, with residential training blocks at the farm's veteran-designed lodge, a mentor, an individual pathway plan, and placement support into farm employment, a farm of their own, an apprenticeship, or continued agricultural education.

The second award, under USDA's Outreach and Assistance for Veteran Farmers and Ranchers (2501) program, funds From Service to Soil, which brings USDA's farm programs to veterans where they already gather. Veteran peer navigators, experienced veteran producers paid to walk other veterans through the process, will accompany veterans into USDA Service Centers; Farm Record Days with Farm Service Agency staff on site will establish each veteran's USDA customer record and farm number, the gateway to every USDA loan and conservation program; and a Service Center Circuit will bring FSA, NRCS, and Rural Development staff to stops hosted by County Veteran Service Officers and veteran organizations from the Panhandle to Jacksonville.

Both programs are delivered in coalition with the New North Florida Cooperatives Association, a veteran-led producer cooperative that has served farmers in the Florida Panhandle for three decades, and are independently evaluated by the American Farm to Institute. Over three years the two projects expect to reach more than 900 veterans, train 60 in the cohort program, establish 240 USDA customer records and 150 farm numbers, and help 60 veteran farms get started or grow.
